Amanda Brugel

(February 27th, 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on this part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. The people who aren't familiar with this term often think that there is a separate island in the west of Montreal however, this part of West Island is home to everything from Lachine west to the Lachine city. Lachine west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel became a woman of a certain age within Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. However, a growth spurt caused her to outgrow all of the dance partners she was able to have. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels, I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. Former dancers often turn to acting and in the case of Brugel it was an urging by her teacher of drama. The teacher who suggested she pursue a role for the school's annual production. She tried out and eventually got the role of the main character in Anne of Green Gables. The Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received the Bachelors in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years that followed, Brugel has been offered roles in more than 60 productions across small and big screens, attracting the greatest attention when she landed the part of Rita in the award-winning television series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian actress in Season 1 and only appeared at times.
